Santiago de Chile, it is the fall of 2000 when Francisco de Borja and Rodrigo Chavarria, who enrolled in their third year of studies in Modern School of Music, decide one day to rehearse together and see what happens. What happened was the song "Bufón"("Joker"), Opus 3's album track 4, and since that time the two emblematic pillars were established in the band's sound: "demolition base", product of the powerful bass-drums synergy and the creative talent of Francisco de Borja in the work’s composition.
Opus 3 is essentially an instrumental progressive rock trio, in which instrumental skills are subject to an expressive end and the composition approach favors the structure and form of it, differing from other bands of the genre that tend to use the "jam session" format or other style clichés. Another hallmark of the band is the achievement of an "orchestral" sound despite being a trio. This is mainly because of the versatility of roles assumed by each instrument to cover a certain area of the sound spectrum.
It is probably because of the complex challenges mentioned above that the position of guitarist has experienced several relays from the origins of the band.
In 2005, with Gonzalo Garcia on electric guitar, Opus 3 plays at Providencia´s Youth Band Festival and gets third place, all a credit to an instrumental progressive rock trio. After that, Opus 3 inserts itself into the circuit playing in various benchmark scenarios in the capital city, which include universities, music schools, outdoor events and reference pubs. As a result of that, in April 2006, Opus 3 is ready to take its next big step, recording their first studio album.
In Tarkus studios, the group recorded in less than a week the homonym album "Opus 3." The CD, recorded, mixed and mastered by Juan Ricardo Weiler, summarized in its eight tracks the evolution experienced by the band during their six years of existence. The material is received with plenty enthusiasm by Chilean label Mylodon Records , and the prestigious French label Musea Records, which take to the task of their national and international distribution.
Opus 3 performs the album´s official launch in the legendary U. de Chile`s Radio Master Hall, and then goes into an intense promotional circuit in the capital city, marking their presence in major events like the bassist´s national contest Bass Experience 07 ', or the so-called "Revolución Pinguina" ("Penguin Revolution", a series of scenario-changing high-school-student-led protests) that shook the country in 2007, as well as the usual scenarios of Santiago´s night scene. They also achieved their broadcast through Futuro´s Radio show, Punto de Vanguardia.
In April 2007 the guitarist position is declared vacant, and in July of that year, Christian Allendes joins as a new member. In 2008 Opus 3 returns to the stage with a cohesive training, playing in forefront cycles with leading recognized national progressive bands.
Currently the band is preparing new material for their next production, a conceptual album that reflects the band´s evolution since their first CD was released, exploring new concepts and a renewed sound proposal.
